“I will continue to fight to remove and reduce the state income tax.”
Georgia’s tax code has not been seriously reformed since Jimmy Carter’s administration. We need to overhaul our tax code. I favor a “Fair Tax”-like system for Georgia, a retail based tax system to replace our current state and corporate income tax. A larger rainy day fund would be needed to “smooth out” the ups and downs of sales taxes, but with fiscal discipline this could be accomplished. Currently, nine States have no income tax and Georgia needs to eliminate its income tax in order to be competitive with our neighbors like Tennessee and Florida.
In the 2014 legislative session, there is a move to transition to a fair tax system in addition to reforms that were enacted in 2012. I will continue to fight to remove and reduce the state income tax.
